Yamaha HL500 is not the kind of bike you’d expect, and that’s a good thing. Showing off that impressive and fun factor of a snowmobile, and the styling of a motorcycle, the Yamaha HL500 by Northern Lights Optic is a rare snow bike, to say the least. It all started with a Yamaha HL500, and soon Husky Restorations, in New York, were involved to help build this unique snow motorcycle.
FrameCrafters were responsible for the custom-built frame, while power comes from a 1979 Yamaha XT500 engine, with a Megacycle cam and heavy-duty valve springs also part of the package. Let’s not ignore the 36 mm Mikuni carb, K&N filter, and stainless steel exhaust, with a built-in silencer. I cannot help wonder why the silencer; is it to keep you safe from avalanches, or someone decided this bike was way too fun?
Anyway, nothing could make me ignore the overall awesomeness of this Yamaha HL500.. With a bodywork including a tank and seat sourced from the iconic 1976 YZ125, along with side covers, and 43 mm YZ forks, this thing is ready to roll – or sky, or slide, or whatever a snow bike does. Whatever you call it, it’s obviously fun!
