2012 Ducati’s Hypermeter 796 is about serious riding. It takes about a nanosecond after sliding a leg over the 32.5-inch high seat and reaching for the controls to tell what this bike is about; something so light, well-balanced and comfortably arranged could not be built for anything other than a throttle twisting good time.

The 796 rides the common ground between manners and madness, mixing Ducati’s unrivalled twin-cylinder power and sport bike heredity with the lightweight and minimalist supermotard concept.

Just as aggressively striking as the 1100EVO, the Hypermotard 796 features a lower seat height and a smooth and flexible engine to make it the perfect urban assault vehicle.

The 796 follows on from the Hypermotard 1100, which was first shown in prototype form at the 2005 EICMA show in Milan. Those at the Ducati factory who had initial reservations about the concept – designed to create a bike which combined the agility and precision of a supermotard machine and the power characteristics of a sports bike – were soon forced to turn over to a new page when the 1100 became an instant cause celebre.

Interestingly, it never happened to me to slow down or not aggressively attack turns-the willowy feel does not translate into an insecure ride, the Ducati Hypermeter 796 just feels rather toy-like, and who doesn’t know how to have fun with toys?
